RESULTS OF RECYCLING

AT

MONTGOMERY HIGH SCHOOL

On July 1, 1995 we began recycling paper, cardboard, cans plastic and glass containers with the help of the Urban Corps of San Diego. The Urban Corps is a non-profit agency dedicated to the training of young people in job skills. The Urban Corps operates through grants, donations and money earned from contracts for recycling and conservation work. They train young men and women. Corps men and women spend part of their time in the classroom earning their GED s or taking college classes. The rest of their day is spent learning job skills.

Thanks to the Urban Corps we have recycled 116 tons of paper as of July 1, 1999.

This means that we have saved:

1. 1,997 Trees

2. 824,656 gallons of water

3. enough electricity to watch TV for 3,233,680 hours

4. 453 cubic yards (12,233 cubic feet)

of landfill space

5. & reduced air pollution by 7,117 pounds.

This does not include the 1 ton plus of cardboard which we recycle each month, nor the cans, plastic containers, and glass.
